I couldn't find them. I'd like to see these tools added if they're not there already. If they are there, could you please tell me where? Maybe going from the notebook view where notes are organized in notebooks to a kind of mindmap view, where the links between the pages are used in order to create automatically a graph or an mindmap where I can navigate in etc. Of course it should be possible to make the map manually as well (where the nodes are the pages).

There are a lot of different views one can imagine: a chronographical view (diary type) and so on... (Tinderbox for Mac might be an inspiration as well)... go go go...

Matus.

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

IntegratedAD security -- I use a shared notbook for my IT Department. Instead of only allowing a few lines when I ink to the bottom of a page, scroll down and give me an entirely blank area. This way I can continue to utilize an entire page and scroll up to review previous notes if needed. Writing at the top of the page > writing in a cramped bottom area.

Worse case scenario, let us scroll down to blank writing area.

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

Latex, latex, latex. One of the reasons I don't use MS products more is lack of MS latex support in office products. Mac has great latex support in all their programs. Why not MS? I hate Mac, so I use linux instead. I use Vista and like it, but if it had more latex support I'd use it more.

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

A power toy to change the page tab color, we have notebook and section colors.

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

Drawing tools in onenote are surprisingly primitive compared to what can be found in Word and PowerPoint. Word and PowerPoint 12 drawing tools include a whole host of predefined autoshapes the most useful of them being the 'contour' tool for creating smooth curves, such functionality would be very useful in onenote. Also, Word and PowerPoint 12 allow for linestyle editing which can make regular lines into dotted lines, add arrows on either side etc...
I think a powertoy that allows line editing (dotted lines are especially useful for geometry notes) and smooth contours in onenote would be very useful.

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

Some great ideas here,

I have to agree with the idea about collapsing subpages. That would be cool.

I have enjoyed the sort powertoy very much a great tool. A possible addition to that tool would be the ability to sort pages by date. I currently have to type in the date in a specific format to allow date sorting. ie: 2007-09/16. This is working great and is a huge improvement over before. It does seem that if it could be done, utilizing the existing entry date of the page as a sort option would be be more effective.

Thanks for providing forum and for providing a venue for continuous improvement on such a great product as onenote.

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

Numbered tags -- automatically sequenced numbering 1, 2, 3, etc. with option to edit numbers and/or move numbered tags to different locations.

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

Convert straight quotes to smart quotes. A lot of my notes eventually get printed, and they look a lot better with typographical (‘curly’) quotes. Now, I have to type ALT codes to get the proper quotes. It would be nice if there is an option (with a shortcut) to bring it back to its original size. Dragging the rectangle size is not good because raster images end up having jagged lines. This is bad if you have a screen clipping and the font size is small albeit very readable.

- Programmable shortcuts.

What is reasonable for you might not be so for me. Moreover, shortcuts should be easy to remember, and this is a personal matter. Visual Studio has a great way to personalize your shortcuts.

- Get away from ribbon

Whatever you do, please do not include the ribbon interface on Outlook or OneNote.

- Copy with formatting (from pdf).

While Microsoft might have been barred from providing pdf support in Office, I think that including a special option to capture text with formatting from pdf and saving it as emf graph would be nice. This would fall under compatibility rather than direct competition, so it might not be included in the nasty monopoly thing. In fact, this would be a great addition that would keep college kids from buying Macs. My classmates that bought a Mac said that their main reason was because the could use LaTeX to generate the formulas, use dvi2pdf, and then paste them onto their presentation software. I use dvi2ps, then pstoedit ($50 for a single filter!) to obtain an emf vector graph from ps. Then I paste the formulas to either OneNote or Powerpoint.

Hector

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

I would love to be able to collaps all sub pages of a page so i only see page headings...
Ton

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

An add-on that lets you embed flash (*.swf) files would also be useful.

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

Hi. What I would like to see is a tool that lets you send the document to OneNote from INSIDE the office apps (Word, excel, powerpoint). It would be just like the "Send to Onenote" tool in explorer except that you could do it from inside the app, while you are viewing the document. (Not a cliping, but a link to the document or embedding of the document in OneNote)

See also discussion at:
http://blogs.msdn.com/johnguin/archive/2007/07/...

ThomasK

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

Unlimited tags

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

Update to "Daily Journal" PowerToy
- Easier config in 2007
- Other enhancements?

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

SnagIt to OneNote
- Send from TechSmith's "SnagIt" (screen clipping) to OneNote.
- Especially helpful for marked up images.

SnagIt is awesome and extremely powerful. Without pen-input-playback it can be almost impossible to tell why, for instance, a messy graph looks the way it does. Simultaneous Audio/Pen-Input Recording w/ Simultaneous Playback capabilities just helps polish it off.

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

- a "river view" like blog for all the pages in the section.
- backup for preferences, templates and tags.
- A page in various sections in sync or a better sistem for tag entire pages.

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

Change/History/Version Log
- Shows last modification date, time, and user.
- Creates a list at the bottom of the page.

Sync Log
- Shows last successful sync date/time.

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

Update of "OneNote 2007 + MindManager" (MindJet Labs) to work with v7.

http://mindjetlabs.com/cs/files/folders/mindjetlabs/entry618.aspx

Re: Ideas for PowerToys?

1) Automatic hyperlink generation.
